The first issue of KINtop is dedicated to German cinema "Before Caligari" (which was the title of the inspiring German retrospective at the Pordenone festival in 1990). Germany's early cinema is less known than early cinema in other countries, due to the special situation of film archives and academic film research in Germany after World War Two. KINtop 1 focuses on early German comedies and on the VERORTUNG of early German film in an international framework.
