  • Successful Funding through Rhineland-Palatinate’s Research Initiative!

    JProf. Dr. Nele Sawallisch is part of UT’s newly formed research group CONAR—Contested Narratives (Speakers: Prof. Dr. Christian Nuernbergk (lead), Prof. Dr. Kristin Shi-Kupfer, Prof. Dr. Pascal Jürgens). This interdisciplinary group looks at how narratives are circulated in the digital public sphere and how they shape, as per their program, “global action areas” and “current discourses.” Using both manual analysis and automated data collection, the various projects within CONAR consider “themes, communication strategies, and techniques” that narratives against the backdrop of the spread of populism and the creation of mis/trust in political institutions. JProf. Dr. Nele Sawallisch’s project is entitled “Jesters, Journalists, Public Intellectuals? U.S. Comedians and Narratives of Trust in Populist Times”.

  • BANNED BOOKS WEEK Trier /Münster, October 2026 – Looking for Student Contributors! 

  • Hi all – are you interested in the topic of banned books? The rise of the right has made this topic urgent and relevant again, in and outside of the realm of education. In the US, particularly, the banning of books has a long tradition but has also seen a significant rise in recent years. Book banning occurs, of course, in many countries, including Germany. Together with colleagues from Münster University and their Banned Books network, a group of University and City Library people in Trier are planning events for this year’s Banned Book Week (Oct 5-11, 2026).

    More precisely, we are looking to organize a lunch lecture event on the topic on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, and we are looking for interested students willing to participate in organizing and contributing to this format.
