“Learning to Speak English”: Displays and Displaces of Vulnerability in Contemporary Migrant Literature

Tuesday April 12th 2022, 4:15-5:45 pm via Zoom

This talk will explore the role of linguistic borders and border crossings on self-expression and on social and communal identity as witnessed in recent performed and written migrant literature. Although the focus will be on US-based writers, this talk will address multilingual works and spaces, stressing the importance of language usage as a means to express vulnerability and create discomfort in spaces of transition.

Registration via e-mail is required: sawallischuni-trierde and s2lameyeuni-trierde

This guest lecture is part of “Riverine Borders - On rivers and other border materialities”, the accompanying digital program to Zoe Leonard’s exhibition “Al río / To the River”, organized by The Contemporary Art Museum of Luxembourg in cooperation with the UniGR-Center for Border Studies, Université du Luxembourg, Universität des Saarlandes, and Universität Trier.
