Final Theses: Bachelor and Master

If you click on this icon you will be redirected to: Formal guidelines

In preparation for the final theses, students usually choose their topic from a list of themes. The proposed topics are closely formulated in conjunction with the Chair's teaching contents, so that it is advisable to study our major field of study and to have completed the Study Project or the Research Project at the Chair. Empirical support of the work is usually expected. Theses in collaboration with corporations are welcome in the Program for High Potentials. Since 2002, the Chair has supervised over 800 theses on Offline-, Online- and Omni-Channel Retailing, E-Commerce Internationalization, International Corporate Branding and International Marketing-Management.

Design of theses

When preparing final theses, the formal guidelines  of the Chair for Marketing and Retailing have to be considered, namely about the design of

  • the written composition and
  • maybe the lectures or presentations in the colloquium.

You can get access to them via the download area. Information on the literature research with the databases available at the Trier University can also be found in the download area. The use and citation of WWW-documents is usually not allowed, and the work is checked for originality with a plagiarism program; if more than 10% of correspondence with other documents is not indicated accordingly, it usually leads to the rejection of the thesis.

Bachelor thesis

Bachelor theses are created over a time of four months and are usually involved in a colloquium of lectures and short summaries of the results. Topics are usually prescribed by the Chair and can also be proposed by students in limited numbers. Further, the bachelor thesis can be written in the case of a stay abroad after prior agreement with the partner university. In an introductory colloquium or consultation, you will receive the basic literature on the topic and will be "briefed" on the structure of the work. After reading the relevant literature, further consultations will follow.

Application: Each semester, the places for bachelor theses are centrally distributed to the individual Chairs of Business Administration. The candidates assigned to the Chair are contacted directly. In a kick-off colloquium, the selectable topics are presented in detail. Subsequently, you will then receive an e-mail with a link to our application form, in which you can specify up to three preferences of topics. The allocation of applicants to the topics is usually made in the same week. You will be notified by e-mail and invited by Professor Swoboda or an research assistant for a first consultation.

Master theses are created over a time of six months. Empirical topics are usually prescribed by the Chair and can also be proposed by students themselves in limited numbers. If you want to collaborate with a company, you should ensure the contribution of the company (data provision, etc.). The master theses are ideally empirically based research studies.
