The major objective of this workshop is to know and understand the basic principles and rules of the responsible conduct of research. The participants will explore differences and grey areas between good practice, questionable practices and scientific misconduct. They will learn how misconduct can be recognized and prevented and why and how it should be addressed and dealt with. The participants will learn how to protect their work and are encouraged to speak with colleagues about important issues.

The content of the workshop follows the curriculum “Good scientific practice” which was developed in cooperation with the German Research Ombudsman:

  • Good scientific practice and scientific misconduct
  • Documenting the research process and managing data
  • Authorship and the publication process
  • How to deal with scientific misconduct
  • Responsibility and accountability in science
  • Local, national and international guidelines and regulations

The workshop encourages your active involvement and features case discussions, individual and small group work, plenary discussions and information input. Additional material and other resources will be provided after the workshop.
Interested Master‘s students should have already started their own research project to participate.
