Research interests
Due to my responsibilities in the medical practice in a Human Genetics laboratory, I have been interested in the Triplo-X syndrome for many years. In 2005, I established a contact group for women and girls with Triplo-X syndrome. We organized meetings for the families to provide opportunities for an exchange of personal experiences. For Triplo-X syndrome, scientific literature is not abundant and, in part, outdated. Thus, information for parents and affected women and girls is not easily accessible, especially for pregnant women expecting a girl with Triplo-X syndrome. My particular interest is the intellectual and mental development of girls with Triplo-X syndrome. I would like to evaluate whether the psychosocial development of women and girls is impaired and whether learning disabilities as well as certain behavioral and psychological traits are specific for the condition. Furthermore, it would be interesting to study if the girls are more affected by psychosocial stress, and whether their tolerance for frustration is reduced in comparison to normo-karyotypic controls. |
