WiMo: Modelling and Acquisition of Knowledge for Case-based Reasoning
This project was carried out at the University of Kaiserslautern in tight collaboration with two companies in Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany: tecInno GmbH and INSIDERS GmbH. The goal of this project was to improve case-based reasoning methods
- Methods and tools for modelling the required knowledge of an application area
- Tools for case acquisition
- Optimization of the indexing of cases in case-bases
- Development of a CBR server
- Development of an enhanced consultation system
- Development of interfaces to conventional software environments
- Finding guidelines for developing CBR systems
- Development and evaluation of experimental applications in tight collaboration with the industrial partners
Starting May 1996, tecInno GmbH marketed a commercial version of the resulting improved CBR-tool, called CBR-Works.
Technology transfer was the second major target in this context. We have identified potential application areas of case-based reasoning, particularly in companies located in Rheinland-Pfalz. The Centre for Learning Systems and Applications (University of Kaiserslautern) provided substantial support for potential users of the CBR technology.
The exploitation of the results of this project lead to advantages for two groups. First of all, the participating industrial co-operation partners could directly use the developed methods and software which lead to an advantage for them in developing and marketing case-based systems. Secondly, the final application users of CBR systems strongly profit from the better use of their corporate knowledge through CBR techniques.
