The Graduate Center also offers continuing education courses in eLearning formats that can be completed independently and flexibly in terms of time.

 

TwentyOne Skills Online Workshops

Through the cooperation with the digital learning portal TwentyOne Skills, the GUT program is enriched by a new format, especially for scientists in early career phases, which is easily accessible and flexible to use. Users can choose between synchronous and asynchronous learning modes and/or combine them. Courses with a learning duration of 1-2 hours (deep dives) as well as approx. 20-minute “nuggets” are offered.

The platform includes an extensive range of online courses in German and English specifically for target groups in science and research. It currently offers over 50 courses and is constantly being expanded and updated.

Application training for the non-academic job market - self-study courses

Open for: Doctoral Candidates & Postdocs

The transition from the university world to the private sector is an important and sometimes difficult step. This series of courses helps you to find a job quickly and successfully. There are five self-study courses to choose from:

  • Job search: How to search for job offers efficiently
  • Application documents: How to create perfect application documents
  • Job interviews: How to master interviews with confidence
  • Salary negotiations: How to successfully negotiate your salary
  • Employment contract: How to understand contract terms correctly

This training is aimed at German and foreign doctoral candidates and doctoral graduates who have little previous application experience in industry. The courses are available in German and English.

Each course module prepares you for the respective topic and supports you in developing an individual solution. The self-study courses are time-flexible and can be completed at your own pace.

Good scientific practice in doctoral studies - self-study course

Open for: Master's Students interested in doing a PhD & Doctoral Candidates

How should research results be documented? How do you cite correctly? How do you deal with image sources? The eLearning course “Good Scientific Practice in Doctoral Studies”, in German or English, provides answers to questions on how to work correctly.

In cooperation with the Graduate Academy of the Goethe University Frankfurt (GRADE), which designed this interdisciplinary course, the GUT offers an online self-study course for students to complete on their own. This course deals with further doctoral topics: how to plan and organize the research project sensibly; or which legal aspects, such as labour and copyright law, are relevant for doctoral candidates.

The webcast is aimed at academics of all levels of experience who would like to find out about alternative career options outside the university system or who would like to leave the academic career path.

The aim is to support you in developing viable individual ideas for professional alternatives to an academic career. Through knowledge input, case studies, tasks for analysis and self-reflection as well as sample materials (e.g. sample CVs, practice questions for job interviews), the self-learning video will enable you to:

  • assess the situation for doctoral candidates on the job market,
  • reflect on your own interests and values,
  • research possible career options,
  • assess your own skills for the non-university job market,
  • start the application process
  • and plan next steps.
