Danny Pfeffermann is Professor of statistics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, and at the Southampton Statistical Sciences Research Institute (S3RI), University of Southampton, UK. His main research areas are analytic inference from complex sample surveys, including seasonal adjustment and trend estimation, observ-ational studies, nonresponse and small area estimation. Professor Pfeffermann has presented and published many articles on small area estimation in leading statistical journals such as The Journal of the American Statistical Association, International Statistical Review and Survey Methodology. He is teaching this topic regularly and is consulting the Office for National Statistics in the UK and the Bureau of Labor Statistics in the USA on related problems.
Professor Pfeffermann served for two years as the president of the Israel Statistical Society, he is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association and an elected member of the International Statistical Institute. For the past 6 years he served as Ass. Editor of Biometrika and he continues serving as Ass. Editor for Survey Methodology. In addition, he has recently finished editing the new handbook in Statistics on “Survey Sampling: Theory, Methods and Applications. The handbook contains 41 chapters and is scheduled to be
published by Elsevier in 2009.
