The International Office is in charge of handling the administrative questions of a temporary stay at the University of Trier. Academic Year and Semesters

The academic year is divided into two semesters: the winter semester runs from 1 October to 31 March, while the summer semester runs from 1 April to 30 September. However, classes for the winter semester begin in October and end in February, while classes for the summer semester begin in April and end in July. The exact dates can be found here.

Which type of courses are available at the University of Trier?

Lectures (Vorlesung): Lectures cover the material relevant for examinations at the end of the semester and are often supplemented by tutorials.
Tutorials (Übung): Tutorials usually complement lectures. They involve reviewing and practically applying the content covered in lectures, either with a focus on examination preparation or through practical exercises. The content covered in tutorials is generally relevant to the examination for the corresponding lecture.
Seminar (Seminar): Seminars begin with an introduction by the seminar instructor, followed by independent work on a specific topic, a presentation to the group and the submission of a written paper of approximately 15-20 pages. 
Practice-oriented study projects / research projects: These courses involve the academic reflection on and analysis of a research question arising from professional practice. They generally have an empirical focus and are conducted in groups. The aim is to develop key skills such as social competence, teamwork and confidence in giving presentations.

Which courses, lectures and classes will I attend?

The combination of the studying program of the "Fachbereich IV" should be coordinated with the respective home university before the beginning of the studies abroad. Additional information to the offered lectures and courses are available at the homepage of the University of Trier under "University Calendar". Shortly before the beginning of each semester some information sessions will be offered. It is recommended to visit these. Course descriptions as well as information about the courses offered by the "Fachbereich IV" in English are available at the ERASMUS homepage under downloads. Information about the offered courses in Business, Economics and Sociology are available in a Bachelor Programme or Master Programme. Exchange students of the "Fachbereich IV" are recommended to attend particularly specialization courses of the Bachlor Programme. In one academic year (two semesters) 60 ECTS are supposed to be achieved. Accordingly, in one semester 30 ECTS credits should be achieved.

How do I obtain my Transcript of Records for the courses completed in Trier?

At the end of your studies at Trier University, you can request a Transcript of Records documenting the academic achievements you have completed. Please fill out the application form and send it to era4hiwiuni-trierde.

The respective chairs and departments will forward your records of academic achievement to the Erasmus Office. The Transcript of Records can only be issued and, if requested, sent to you once all results have been received.

Specific Foreign Language Training ("FFA"): The University of Trier provides a course accompanying specific foreign language training (FFA) in English and Chinese as additional course in the diploma examination.
