Information and documents for writing a thesis

Here you will find helpful documents for writing a thesis in our department. The typical procedure is as follows:

Have you agreed on a topic with your supervisor?

Then create a written exposé and submit it to your supervisor.

Special case of “external” theses

You have found a psychobiological topic and supervision at an external institution (clinic, counseling center, research institute) and would like to write your thesis there? This is only possible in justified exceptional cases. Please contact us [balmes@uni-trier.de]. One requirement is that the topic must fit in with the research focus of our department. In principle, such “external” theses must be requested in advance from the Examination Board (you will find our form below). Supervision is then carried out on site by a competent person (usually a psychologist), who also writes one of the reports.

The exposé is finished or in progress?

Make an appointment in the colloquium to present the planned thesis. Ideally, you should present your thesis before the start of data collection so that any changes resulting from the discussion in the colloquium are still possible. Important note: The colloquium takes place in PRESENCE! If it is foreseeable that you will not be able to attend the colloquium regularly on site in Trier, you will not be able to write a thesis in our department.

Are you about to register your work in the HPA?

Discuss with your supervisor the appropriate time for registration. Remember that the deadline for submission is set when you register with the HPA. Extensions are only possible in justified exceptional cases.

  • Here you will find general information on registering theses in the HPA [→ Link]
  • Submit the completed and signed application in printed form to your supervisor
  • Enclose proof of the completed VP hours

The data collection is complete and you want to start writing?

Then you should follow a few general guidelines in terms of content and form in consultation with your supervisor.
