Application procedure and reservation of seminar places in a major field of study

Application procedure for the Master's degree program

This course will be offered from the winter semester 2023/24. Approximately 48 students will be admitted to the first semester of the Master's degree program in both the winter and summer semesters. The application deadline is 31.05. for the winter semester and 15.1. for the summer semester (subject to the approval of the senate). The admission requirements are regulated in the subject examination regulations and include a B.Sc. degree in Psychology or equivalent and proof of at least 140 credit points in the Bachelor's degree course by the application deadline. Further information on the application process, lateral entry and enrolment can be found on the pages of the Examination Board.

Choice of specializations before starting your studies

The specializations are described here. Approximately 12 study places are offered in each specialization per semester. In order to enable students to plan their studies over the long term and to ensure a sufficient number of seminar places, all students commit themselves to a specialization in which there are still free seminar places before the start of their studies. Seminar places are then reserved for this person in this specialization. It is therefore no longer possible to switch between specializations once they have been allocated - neither at the beginning of the course nor later on.

Entering preferences for the specializations

In order to receive seminar places in a specialization, students must (a) indicate their preferences for our four specializations in our online questionnaire and (b) bindingly accept their study place in our degree program. As soon as we receive notification from the central administration of Trier University that a student has bindingly accepted a study place, and as soon as we see preferences from this person in the online survey, we allocate the person seminar places in the specialization that is their first preference. If this specialization is already full, we allocate the person their second preference and so on. It does not matter whether students enter their preferences before or after the binding acceptance of the study place. If students enter preferences and then do not accept a place, the preferences are automatically deleted after a few months. If students take part in the preference survey several times, only the most recent entry will be taken into account. If you do not get your first preference, this is not a problem because only a quarter of all credit points are earned in the specializations and three quarters in the general part of the degree program. After all, this is a general Master's degree program in psychology (M.Sc. Psychology), which provides students with a broad qualification for the entire non-therapeutic job market in psychology.

You can indicate your preferences for the specializations in this online questionnaire.
