City and University

Trier is the oldest city in Germany with more than 2000 years of history. But Trier is also a city that has remained young at heart and lies in “The Heart of Europe”. The routes to Luxembourg, Belgium and France are not far- even by bicycle. The city also has a high cultural and leisure value with; Roman monuments, an alternative culture centre, beer bars and wine bars situated in the Old Town….

Our university is young and old simultaneously. Old because it was founded in 1473 making it one of the earliest university foundations. Young because it was rebuilt in 1970 after Napoleon had closed it at the end of the 18th Century. Unfortunately, we no longer have the old university buildings but instead have a modern and respectable Campus university. We are a university of “Short Ways”.  You will be able to find more detailed information about studying at the University of Trier and student life (living, eating, jobs, leisure activities and sports) on the university’s website.

The academic calendar is also useful as it contains the semester dates, the active teaching period, registration deadlines and holidays, the university guide and the description of the online services that are available to you when organising your studies at the university of Trier.
