Semantic fields to look for are words to refer to the immediate natural surroundings such as river or tree, terms to refer to relatives such as mother or sister, parts of the body such as eye or ear, domestic animals such as sheep or cow, etc. Word classes other than nouns could be pronouns such as my or she, and, quite especially, basic numbers.

Besides vocabulary, we could watch out for endings, e.g. the endings of verbs in the Present Tense. In other words, we could look for morphological evidence.
