Screen1900 Member: Daniela Müller-Kolb

Daniela Müller-Kolb is a PhD student in Media Studies at the University of Trier. From 2010 to 2012 she was a research assistant in the Screen1900 project “The Social Question in Lantern Shows and Early Cinema around 1900”. In 2013, she received a master of arts (Magistra Artium) from the University of Trier with her thesis Lichtbildreklame. Frühe Werbung mit der Laterna Magica in which she analyses the usage of the magic lantern for purposes of advertising during the 19th and early 20th century. A short overview is given in the article “Advertising with Light. Commerce and the Magic Lantern” which was published in 2015 by The Magic Lantern Society. With Ludwig Vogl-Bienek, she is currently working in the Screen1900 project “The Fundamentals of Digitalisation of Works in the Historical Art of Projection” at the University of Trier. Her PhD project investigates catalogues of the photographic industry in late 19th and early 20th century focusing on the distribution of projection equipment and photographically reproduced slides as a main basis for shows in the art of projection for mass audiences. In her dissertation she dissects selected catalogues from Germany and Great Britain for discussing basic media historic source analyses.
