„Inductive Metaphysics“

Projekt A4: Inductive Methods in Kant and Neo-Kantianism  (Prof. Dr. Kristina Engelhard, Dr. Lorenzo Spagnesi, Prof. Dr. Brigitte Falkenburg, TU Dortmund) gefördert von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (Projektseite) als Teil der Forschungsgruppe „Inductive Metaphysics“ (FOR 2495).

Übergeordnetes Ziel der Forschungsgruppe „Inductive Metaphysics“ ist es, eine neue Konzeption der Natur und Methodologie von Metaphysik zu entwickeln. Dabei soll aufgezeigt werden, dass metaphysische Hypothesen und Theorien nicht allein durch begriffliche Intuitionen und reine Vernunftargumente begründet werden können, sondern – wie die Hypothesen und Theorien anderer Wissenschaften – wesentlich auch auf empirische Quellen und induktive Schlüsse gestützt sein sollten.

Das Teilprojekt A4 „Inductive Methods in Kant and Neo-Kantianism“ erforscht dabei den historischen Hintergrund der späteren Programme einer induktiven Metaphysik (IM) unter systematischen Gesichtspunkten mit besonderem Fokus auf die Philosophie Kants. Im Gegensatz zu äußerst einflussreichen Auffassungen des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts behaupten wir, dass weder Kants Transzendentalphilosophie noch seine kritische Theorie der Natur ausschließlich auf apriorischen Methoden beruhte.

Meine Forschungsarbeit konzentriert sich auf Teil I und Teil II des Projekts. Teil I des Projekts befasst sich mit den Elementen induktiver Metaphysik in Kants kritischer Theorie der Natur. Wir wollen die Rolle von Analogieargumenten als einer induktiven Methode in Kants kritischer Philosophie untersuchen und eine Interpretation von Kants Metaphysischen Anfangsgründen der Naturwissenschaft (MAN) (1786) entwickeln, die dieses Werk in scharfem Kontrast zur üblichen Sicht zu einem beachtlichen Grad als Übung in induktiver Metaphysik betrachtet. Teil II konzentriert sich auf zwei spezifische Lehren von Kant, die systematisch relevant für die induktive Metaphysik sind. Erstens deuten wir die transzendentalen Ideen, soweit Kant ihren regulativen Gebrauch in der Transzendentalen Dialektik der Kritik der reinen Vernunft (KrV) behandelt und sie in den MAN anwendet, als Modelle. Wir wollen damit zeigen, dass Kants Metaphysik der Natur teilweise im Sinne einer Modellbildungs-Auffassung der Metaphysik verstanden werden kann. Zweitens argumentieren wir, dass seine Theorie des regulativen Gebrauchs der transzendentalen Ideen als Ansatz verstanden werden sollte, der Theoriewahl-Kriterien für Schlüsse auf die beste Erklärung liefern kann.
