MSc Environmental Sciences
The Master's programme in integrated Environmental Sciences (ES) is designed for graduates in environmental, life and geo-sciences who intend to specialise in different fields of environmental assessment, monitoring and management issues. Based on advanced methodological skills and systems analysis, the students will be trained for jobs in public authorities, private agencies, relevant sections in related industries, insurance companies and others. In addition, the Master's degree entitles the graduates to follow a scientific career in universities and research institutions or to begin national or international PhD programmes.

Course Description
The first semester is based on a common teaching scheme, followed by a choice of three fields of specialisation from the second semester onwards:
- Environmental Monitoring and Pollution Assessment (ES 1):
Exposure of environmental systems to climate change, chemical environmental analysis, impact of toxic substances, disturbance of feedback processes, assessment of cause-and-effect chains
- Environmental Remote Sensing and Modelling (ES 2):
Use of remote sensing systems for assessing and monitoring the environment, focused on both the atmosphere/climate system and terrestrial ecosystems; integration of process models and spatial data analysis (GIS)
- Environmental Conservation and Restoration Management (ES 3):
Management strategies for nature conservation as well as dumpsite reclamation and remediation. Consideration and evaluation of environmental impacts on economics and society, as well as possible solutions
The study programme includes both compulsory and optional courses, so that the enrolled student can develop individual fields of competence and qualification.
The Master's programme is completed with a thesis, to be written in the selected field of specialisation. The Master's degree will be awarded based on the credit points acquired during the two-year-programme and the results of the Master's thesis.

Fees and Funding
All Trier University students are required to pay a fee each semester. This semester fee is not a Tuition fee, but rather supports other elements of student life. For information on the costs of enrolment and semester fees, click here

If you have already completed a Master’s programme and have a degree, you will be required to pay the second Master’s fee of €650 per semester in addition to the semester fee.
Language Requirements
Applicants must prove their English language proficiency level C1, based on the Common European Framework. Please see language requirements for more details.
Academic Requirements
For the Master’s Programme, a Degree (BSc or equivalent) in environmental sciences or similar is required, with a minimum of a 3.0 on the German grading scale. A self-assessment can be done to see if you fulfil the requirements: Self-Assessment

Arrival Support
The International Office at Trier University (Akademisches Auslandsamt) offers a three-and-a-half week orientation programme called “Quick Start”, before the start of the semester. It has four key components: German instruction on four different levels, completing important administrative formalities, various information events as well as a supplementary social and cultural programme.

Services and Support for International Students
Throughout their studies, comprehensive support for international students is given by the International Office (Akademisches Auslandsamt). The IO provides information on administrative and practical issues as well as individual counselling.
Practical language tuition during the whole semester is offered free of charge by the Department of German as a Foreign Language.
In cooperation with the student union's International Centre (Internationales Zentrum), we offer a broad range of social and cultural activities, such as day trips, language exchange programmes or a host family programme.

Trier University provides career services in cooperation with the German Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur für Arbeit): www.career.uni-trier.de. Located on campus, the career service called Jobpassage is designed to support students and graduates in all career-related matters such as internships, full- and part-time jobs and their future career opportunities. Not only does the Jobpassage offer help with finding work opportunities but they also offer career-related practical training such as workshops on resume building.
