A German company, already in the business of smart cards is looking for innovative technologies that could be adapted to implement new functions into its cards. For the present development, the company is looking for the following technologies and components:
- Flexible display (plastic substrate, no glass)
- Electronic driver directly integrated on display panel, low driving voltage (2V-3V DC, without the need of any charge pump).
- Only serial interface with few lines to CPU (central processing unit)
In addition, technologies for further development of the card's capacities are looked for in the following areas:
- Flexible electrical interconnection technology between display and flexible printed circuit boards of different materials like PET (polyethylene terephthalate), PVC (polyvinyl chloride) etc., should meet all ISO (international organisation for standardisation) requirements (ISO7816: bending, torsion etc.).
- Card construction: cold lamination technology between display and different foil materials (UV (ultraviolet), epoxy-based etc.), problems are shear strength, shrinking/bending due to different coefficients of expansion (when the temperature of at least one component is higher than room temperature during the joining process).
Technical Specifications / Specific technical requirements:
The company is presently in the development phase but intents to start mass production. Hence, low cost, high reliability and future standard conformity are of high priority. Technologies should have already reached the prototyping phase. Adjustments should be possible.
