Monoamine transporters in the immune system - Our focus is the characterisation of transporters for serotonin and dopamine in lymphocytes; the impact of the monoamines on lymphocyte function; immunomodulation by antidepressants (e.g. the SSRI fluoxetine/Prozac) and psychotropics (e.g. cocaine, MDMA/‰Ecstasy‰) that target the transporters. Skills encompass the molecular pharmacology of the transporters, lymphocyte biology & pathology (including malignancy), cell signalling.
