Proof of English language proficiency

All applicants to ETMs have to provide a proof of their English language proficiency. A MOI (mode of instruction) letter / paper is not sufficient.

Applicants must prove their English language proficiency at a level equivalent to C1 of the CEF (Common European Framework). The following tests are accepted as proof of English proficiency.  The test must have been taken within the last three years:

  • IELTS / IELTS Academic Online (total score of at least 6.5 points)
  • UNIcert III (common certificate at European Universities)
  • Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)
  • TOEFL (Code 9208): at least 215 points (computer based) or 550 points (paper based) or 80 points (internet based) Institutional Test report (Please note: It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that TOEFL sends the test results directly to the university as that is the only valid form of proof we accept. Without a valid “Test Results Report” directly from TOEFL, enrolment is not possible. The “Test Taker Score Report” is not sufficient as proof of the score.)

Applicants are exempt from providing above proof of English language proficiency if at least one of the following conditions is met:

  • Native speaker coming from Great Britain, North Ireland, Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or Malta
  • Two years of full time study in an English taught program, undertaken within the past two years, in one of these countries: Great Britain, North Ireland, Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or Malta.
  • At least 5 school years of English in secondary education and at least 5 points in English at "Abitur" level (only Germany and Luxembourg)
