Orientation Programme



The International Office at Trier University offers a three-and-a-half week orientation programme before the start of the semester. The aim of the programme is to prepare you for studying at the University and to help you settle into living in Trier. Participation is voluntary, but highly recommended. The orientation programme has four key components. You will receive the full programme schedule on the first day of the course. 


Content

1. German language lessons

You will have approximately 60 hours of German lessons, which are taught by teachers for German as a foreign language (DaF) department for four hours each morning, Monday to Friday. There are courses for a variety of levels (A1 to C1). Usually there are about 15 to 20 students in each group.
 

2. Completion of administrative formalities

In the afternoons, student tutors will help you complete the following important administrative formalities:

  • Receiving your TUNIKA (student ID card)
  • Registering your address in Trier (with the Registration Office)
  • Applying for a residence permit (at the Immigration Office)
     

3. Information sessions

Various information sessions will provide you with important information on the following topics:

  • Studying
  • Leisure activities
  • Clubs and initiatives
  • Student halls of residence
     

4. Social and cultural programme

Here you will get to know other students, for example at events such as: 

  • City tours
  • Excursions
  • Parties
     

Registration and participation fee

Please use the “Anmeldeformular für das Einführungsseminar” (Registration form for Orientation Programme)  in our Bewerbungsportal (online application portal) under “Verfahren” (procedures) to register for the orientation programme.
Participation in the Orientation Programme currently costs approx. 200 Euros.
