Accessibility and barrier-free campus
The ways around campus can be mastered by wheelchair users. The differences in height are mostly manageable.
All lecture halls have special wheelchair spaces in the top row.
For the blind, both the different backgrounds and distinctive points are helpful for orientation.
All buildings have elevators. Each building also has disabled toilets that can be opened with the the Euro Key.
TUKAN machines
The TUKAN machines, which can be found at various locations on campus I and II, can also be used by wheelchair users via the trackball on the right-hand side of the keyboard. This allows a mouse pointer to be moved and directed to the fields on the screen. All fields on the screen can be controlled and triggered with the mouse buttons over the trackball.
EC card reader, TUNIKA reader and receipt dispenser are located in the lower part of the device and are easily accessible.
Barrier free access to the University library
The University library is accessible for wheelchair users, there is help with the provision of media and a disabled toilet. Please note: The elevators in the library only operate until 10 p.m. Further information on the → libary's website (in German)
Parking on campus for wheelchair users
Disabled students who need their own vehicle can have a parking permit activated at the TUNIKA so that they can also use the parking spaces that can only be reached through a barrier. Proof of severe disability (Schwerbehindeurng) is not necessarys.
Please contact Mr. René Drossert, Tel. 0651-201-4219, E-Mail: drossert@uni-trier.de, Room V 214.
There are also designated disabled parking spots on campus. In order to park here you need a special parking permit: the "Parking permit for people with disabilities in the European Union". In order to apply for the blue parking permit - usually at the local road traffic authority or the city's regulatory office - you need a severely disabled person's pass with the marks aG (exceptionally disabled) or Bl (blind).
