"Optimization in Medium-Sized Logistics at Amazon" is the title of the lecture by Dr. Jan-Hendrik Lange, which he will give on Monday, November 14, 2022 at 16 c.t. in HS 9.

In the middle logistics at Amazon, large quantities of packages are transported across Europe every day. It is essential to make logistics as efficient as possible in order to save costs, fuel and CO2 emissions. For this reason, scientists at Amazon develop software that, among other things, predicts demand volumes, optimizes production curves, creates schedules, and plans tours and labor resources.

Furthermore, Amazon has set itself the ambitious goal of decarbonizing the entire Group by 2040, which requires in particular the use of zero-emission heavy-duty transporters. The transformation to zero-emission vehicles is a major challenge in the set timeline, and Amazon pioneered the first electric trucks in its network in 2022. Strategic and tactical planning issues related to the transformation to electric vehicles are shown.

Finally, the work as a Research Scientist at Amazon EU and the connection to the study of mathematics or computer science is explained.
