Semester and enrolment fee

There are no tuition fees for doctoral studies at Trier University. However, there is a financial contribution each semester for a student ID.

When enrolling, PhD students and guest scholars need to pay an enrolment fee. This fee needs to be transferred to a university account with a reference to your application number or name. Further details on the enrolment fee and how to transfer it to the university's account information can be found on the website of the Admissions Office.

Study fees are due each semester. The re-registration fees can be payed directly at one of the TUKAN machine using your debit card or by transfering the money to the university's account. Further information on the re-registration fee and the payment procedure can be found on the website of the Admissions Office.

TUNIKA (student ID)

Once you submitted all necessary documents to the student registration office, you will receive your student ID in form of a chip card – the TUNIKA.

Your student ID allows you to manage your studies at the service points (TUKAN), to use it for charge card payments in the dining facility and in the cafeterias, to borrow books in the library and to make copies. Furthermore, your TUNIKA is a valid ticket for using busses and trains in the Trier area called ‘Verkehrsverbund VRT’ (transport association).
