About the UniGR-Center for Border Studies
The UniGR-Center for Border Studies (UniGR-CBS) is an interdisciplinary competence center of the University of the Greater Region (UniGR) and pools the expertise of the border researchers of the six partner universities.
It has been helping to shape the Greater Region since 2014 and works on borders and border regions in Europe and beyond. The participating border researchers analyse socio-economic and socio-cultural issues and present practice-oriented solutions for challenges in border regions.
Research
The border researchers analyse socio-economic and socio-cultural issues from a cross-border and comparative perspective. They are organised in interregional working groups along thematic focuses and develop solutions for challenges in border regions as well as contributions to the foundations of border research.
Teaching
The border researchers cooperate in the training of students and doctoral candidates. In addition to jointly supervising doctoral students in the field of border research, they have been offering the trinational „UniGR-Master's in Border Studies“ since 2017. The cross-border study programme at four UniGR universities includes a specialisation in spatial and cultural/linguistic studies and gives the programme a European profile.
Networking
The border researchers cooperate with each other as well as with international partners. The joint realisation of research and networking projects strengthens the cooperative relationships and increases the supra-regional visibility of the UniGR-CBS. In addition to research visits and internal seminars, this also includes involvement in international networks of cross-border stakeholders and border researchers.
Science-Policy-Interface
Together with regional stakeholders, the border researchers identify socio-economic and socio-cultural challenges in the Greater Region and develop practical solutions. They actively shape the spatial development in the Greater Region and organise events for the exchange and transfer of knowledge between politics, administration and science.
The UniGR-Center for Border Studies is organised in the partner universities. More information can be found on the UniGR website.
Current Events
At the heart of our planning this year is our desire to support research projects and activities in the field of border studies. To this end, we have, for the first time, announced a grant program for innovative projects and events focused on border studies. The application deadline for the grant has already passed. We look forward to keeping you updated on the funded projects.
In addition to research funding, the UniGR-CBS Trier team also organises and supports other events, including this year's meeting of the UniGR-CBS Steering Committee, the 6th International Conference for Carceral Geography, and a workshop on Tourism and Leisure at the Border. Further information on upcoming events can be found here.
