Master's in Computer Science with own specializations

Computer Science students awarded their degree programme at Trier University an average of more than four out of five stars in all categories. Prof Dr Benjamin Weyers, Spokesperson for Computer Science, attributes this to the attractive range of seminars and projects that students can take during their studies. ‘Our students are quite flexible in their choice of courses and therefore in the specialisations they want to focus on. We support final dissertation and project work to be accomplished in cooperation with companies and thus also strengthen practical relevance.’ The key topic of artificial intelligence in particular plays a key role in teaching and is currently being greatly expanded.

The department currently offers two Master's programmes: the traditional Master's in Computer Science and the English-language Master's in Data Science. The latter focusses on interdisciplinary content, as it is offered together with Mathematics and Economics. ‘The international orientation of the degree programme is also appreciated by students,’ says Weyers.

The subject scored particularly well with an average rating of 4.6 in the categories ‘Support from teaching staff’, ‘Organisation of studies’ and ‘Transition to Master's’. For Prof Dr Leonhard Frerick, spokesperson for Mathematics, the ranking is confirmation of the excellent atmosphere in the department. ‘Mutual appreciation and trusting cooperation, especially with students, are a matter of course for us and characterise the culture of the mathematics department.’

The Professor for Mathematics sees good framework conditions as another success factor. ‘These include, for example, the ‘open maths-space’, which offers students a place to work together, exchange ideas and support each other. The programme is funded by the Nikolaus-Koch Foundation.’ The dedicated student council also contributes to the strong community in everyday student life. Mathematics students can choose from three Master's degree programmes: the traditional Master's in Mathematics, the specialised Master's in Business Mathematics and the English-language Master's in Data Science.
