Good Research Practice

Safeguarding good research practice is a matter of fundamental importance for every academic institution. Moreover, adherence to good research practice (GRP) is a binding obligation for all researchers. It not only helps to ensure the reliability and reproducibility of research findings but also strengthens public trust in science. By fostering a transparent and fair research environment, good research practice promotes creativity and innovation while enabling collaboration and knowledge transfer. It serves both as a prerequisite for and a driving force behind continuous scientific progress.

The effective handling of research misconduct is equally important for safeguarding good research practice and, consequently, for maintaining the integrity and performance of both the academic system as a whole and the Trier University in particular. Rules and standards provide essential guidance in upholding research integrity and protecting against misconduct such as plagiarism, data manipulation, and other breaches of accepted research standards.

In line with the Guidelines for Safeguarding Good Research Practice issued by the German Research Foundation (DFG), the Senate of the Trier University adopted a new statute for safeguarding good research practice and the procedure for dealing with allegations of research misconduct in February 2024. The statute was approved by the DFG in August 2024.
