ERASMUS+ Partner Universities
The partnerships in the ERASMUS+ programme relate to individual departments and/or degree programmes. By matching partner universities to specific departments, you are guaranteed a high-quality exchange that complements your studies at Trier University with the courses offered at the host universities. You can find the individual partner universities for each subject here.
Good to know: Many universities offer courses in English in addition to courses in the local language, which means that you can study there even if you do not speak the local language. You can find more information on the websites of the partner universities and in the application information.
ERASMUS+ Programme benefits
No tuition fees at the host university, monthly allowance of approximately €400 to €600 (the exact amount depends on the destination country and is determined annually; the allowance can be combined with BAföG benefits). In addition, there is a travel allowance based on the distance to the host university, which is increased if the journey to and from the host university is made using environmentally friendly transport.
Students from non-academic backgrounds, students with children and students with a disability of GdB 20 or higher or with a chronic illness that leads to additional costs abroad can receive an additional grant of €250 per month for additional costs during their ERASMUS stay. For students with children and students with a disability, it is also possible to cover verifiable additional costs abroad of up to EUR 15,000 per semester; costs for accompanying persons and/or a preparatory trip can also be taken into account (as of 9/2025, if interested, please consult Anne Freihoff, International Office). Further information can be found here.
Up to 12 months of ERASMUS+ funding are available per study phase (Bachelor's, Master's, Doctorate), i.e. you can study and/or complete internships abroad for one or two semesters with ERASMUS+ in each study phase.
Planning and application
As the partnerships in the ERASMUS+ programme relate to individual departments and/or degree programmes, the application deadlines vary depending on the department. Please note that there is only one application process per academic year. As a rule, you can always apply at the beginning of the year for one year (in January 2026 for the winter semester 26/27 and/or summer semester 2027).
It is therefore important to plan your stay abroad well in advance – ideally, you should start one to one and a half years before your planned departure date. In some degree programmes, this may mean that you should obtain more detailed information as early as your first semester.
In the weeks before the application deadline, the departments offer information events. We announce the current announcements and dates for the events via the university's circular email, on the notice boards of the International Office in Building V and via the departments.
Recognition of study abroad results
As part of the agreements with our partner universities, mutual recognition of academic credits is provided for and encouraged.
The recognition process:
- You consult with the coordinator for study abroad in your programme about possible courses at the host university and whether/in what scope they can be recognized for your studies here.
- The departments have their own information on the recognition process on their websites: Faculty I, Faculty II, Faculty III, Faculty IV, Faculty V, Faculty VI
- In order to reach an agreement on recognition, you must complete a Learning Agreement.
You will receive all information about the Learning Agreement and corresponding step-by-step guides once you have successfully applied and been awarded an ERASMUS exchange place.
