The University Community Mourns

Announcement of July 15, 2026:

It is with great shock and deep sorrow that we learned that a student of our university became the victim of a homicide on July 15, 2026.

Our thoughts are with the family, the student’s friends, and all relatives and companions of the deceased. In this difficult time, they have our sincere and heartfelt sympathy.

Such an event deeply shakes us as a university community. The loss of a young person leaves a painful void in our community and leaves us stunned. We mourn a member of our university and stand together in silent remembrance. On Thursday, July 16, 2026, a joint minute of silence took place at the Forum square. In addition, a condolence book is available in the Studihaus on July 16 and 17, as well as from July 20 to 25, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., where condolences and sympathy may be expressed to the family. This week, the book is located behind the entrance of the Studihaus; from next week onward, it will be on the Studihaus stage.

Those wishing to do so may freely sign the book during the times listed above, give space to their grief, and also make use of the existing seating and gathering areas in the Studihaus. In addition, a separate condolence book is available for staff in the Staff Club. Alongside the parents, family members, and relatives, we also extend our special sympathy to all students, staff, and faculty affected by this event. We would like to encourage everyone to make use of the available support services and to look out for one another.

Once Again, a Death Shakes Our University Community

Announcement of July 21, 2026:

It is with great dismay that we learned that a student of our university has died. According to the current status of the investigation, the police suspect a homicide. The student was found dead in her apartment on Sunday.

The news of this student’s death fills us with deep sorrow and profound shock. Our thoughts are with her family, her friends, and all those who were close to her. They have our sincere sympathy.

Only a few days after the violent death of a student, this new event strikes our university community with full force.

Many members of our university will find this additional distressing news very difficult to bear. Grief, uncertainty, and speechlessness are understandable reactions to such an event. Especially now, it is important to be there for one another and to look out for each other.

Together, we would like to pause on Thursday, July 23, at 12:00 noon in the chapel on Campus II and commemorate our fellow student. In the wake of the events of the past few days, this is intended to create space to come together, pause, and be there for one another. Condolence books will be available from July 22 in the Studihaus and the Staff Club on Campus I, as well as in the library on Campus II. An emergency pastoral counselor will be present in the Studihaus on July 22 from 10:00 a.m. and on July 23 during the memorial service in the chapel.

Until then, we would like to encourage all members of the university to make use of the available support services and to stay in conversation with one another.
